Overseas Vietnamese Association to be set up in Thailand

Overseas Vietnamese held a meeting on June 27 in Bangkok to make plans for the support of expatriates living and working in the city.

At the meeting, Pham Van Ti, an elderly overseas Vietnamese, said that the community in Thailand has been developing quickly and making an active contribution to the homeland. They want to set up an organisation aimed at helping each other and uniting the community.

Nguyen Duy Hung, Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand spoke of the contributions by the community to the homeland over the past years, and gave a briefing on the progress in development of Vietnam and the friendly relationship between the two countries.

The Ambassador agreed to a mechanism for the formation of an association for overseas Vietnamese in Bangkok in accordance with Thai laws, and said that this is the first step to establish the Overseas Vietnamese Association in Thailand.

During the meeting, many overseas Vietnamese approved of the idea to set up an Overseas Vietnamese Association in Thailand. Steps torealize it will be specified in the near future.
