Trang Thanh wins private poetry award for women
The Eva Golden Word Foundation on March 29 presented the Betel Leaf Award for best female poet at the Hanoi-based Vietnam Ethnology Museum.
Gaining the highest number of votes from the jury for her œFlying Quietly poem collection, poet Trang Thanh received the Betel Leaf Award and VND25 million. Trang Thanh, 34, writes poems, short stories and articles for newspapers.
Members of the jury included poets Giang Van, Hoang Hung, Truc Thong, Y Nhi, Nguyen Quang Thieu, Nguyen Binh Phuong, and Do Doan Phuong.
The Eva Golden Word Foundation was established in March 2007 to introduce poem collections by female poets to the public and conduct the Betel Leaf Award.
In the first year (2007), the foundation combined with the Women Publishing House to print six poem collections by six female authors: Letter by Tu Huy (Vietnamese French), Unexpected Suffocation by Tran Le Son Y (HCM City), Lotus Leave Coat by Truong Thi Kim Dung (Hanoi), On the Other Side of the Bridge by Dinh Thi Nhu Thuy (the Central Highlands), Flying Quietly by Trang Thanh (Hanoi), The Room and the Dark by Le My Y (HCM City).
The Betel Leaf Award is the first private award for poetry, initiated by female poet Le Ngan Hang.
