The œReversion to the Origin tourism programme, due to be jointly organised by Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho provinces next year, will feature a great variety of activities and new tours.

The œReversion to the Origin 2007 programme was announced at a press conference held in Hanoi on September 26 by officials from these provinces and the National Administration of Tourism.

Officials said preparatory work for the programme was being made in a quick manner and tourism infrastructure had been improved. The three provinces have a favourable system of transport. Tourists can travel there by road, rail or river way.

However, the railway service from Hanoi to Lao Cai has been deteriorated and the number of trains cannot meet the demands of tourists at peak time, such as weekends or holidays, said Mr Nguyen Quang Duc, director of Lao Cai Trade and Tourism Department. Therefore, he said, more trains would be put into service to favour tourists in the coming time.

The œReversion to the Origin programme in Lao Cao province is expected to include an opening ceremony of the programme at the Lao Cai provincial People Committee square in March, Thuong (Upper) Temple Festival in Lao Cai city in early March, œFestival on the Cloud in Sapa in April, œConquering Fancipan peak competition in mid-April and Vietnam-China International Trade Fair, said Mr Duc.

An official from Yen Bai province said the events in Yen Bai province would include Dong Cuong Temple Festival in March, Thac Ba Lake Discovery Festival in April, Muong Lo cultural week in October, and Nam Cuong Temple Festival in March.

The programme in Phu Tho province is expected to feature Au Co Temple Festival in February, Bach Hac Breaststroke Festival on the Lo River, Hung King Temple Festival in April, and an anniversary to celebrate Lo River Victory in October.

The œReversion to the Origin 2007 is in response to the National Action Plan on Tourism for the 2006-2010 period and to promote tourism potential of Lao Cai, Yen Bai and Phu Tho provinces to develop tourism industry.

The programme is also aimed at developing trade and service and widening co-operation with other provinces and cities nationwide and the western region of China.
