Cherry blossom photo exhibition opens in Hanoi

A photo exhibition of cherry blossoms organized by the Vietnam-Japan Friendship Association opened in Hanoi on April 21 to mark the 35th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

At the opening ceremony, Japanese photographer Teruyo Iwahori said cherry blossoms were a unique and beautiful symbol of Japan that she believed was admired by the Vietnamese.

Her 100 photos captured the various angles of beauty of the Sakura flowers in Japan. The images were printed using advanced technology on ancient Japanese paper.

Attending the ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Mitsuo Sakaba expressed his pleasure at the fine development of the relations between the two countries. He thanked Vietnamese friends for bringing the cherry blossom images, the pride of Japan, to Hanoi.

The Japanese photographer plans to sell some of her photos after the exhibition closes on April 24 to raise fund for Vietnamese disabled children.

This was the second time Teruyo Iwahori photos have been displayed in Vietnam. In 2003, her photos of Vietnamese people and land were showcased in Hanoi and the central city of Hue to mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Japan. Over the past three years, Teruyo Iwahori has taken 10,000 photos during her visits to Vietnam.
